Beyond Low Water: Lost Villages of the North Kent Coast's Swale Estuary

In the world of archaeology, there's a certain allure which surrounds the topic of sunken cities! The very utterance of the word evokes images of warm waters with ancient citadels such as Thonis-Heracleion in the Nile Delta of Egypt or the sunken Mycenaean city of Pavlopetri in southern Greece. But one doesn't have to venture outside of the Swale Estuary to find examples of former settlements swallowed by the sea.
