Hightown Prehistoric Forest Survey

Join us for a free, hands on archaeological workshop surveying the remains of the prehistoric forest at Hightown using non invasive archaeological techniques.
The preserved tree stumps and root systems are an important part of Sefton's prehistoric landscape, providing valuable evidence of the environment thousands of years ago. As tidal action continues to expose and erode the remains, recording them is essential to improve our understanding of this unique site.
No previous experience is required. Our team will teach you the survey techniques used to record the site, giving you the opportunity to contribute to a real archaeological project!
Participants must be 18 or over, have good mobility as the survey takes place on the beach over uneven ground, and wear sensible footwear (wellies or walking boots) suitable for the conditions.
