Coasts in Mind is seeking an Isle of Sheppey artist / creative practitioner to work with community groups to explore themes of local coastal change. The successful applicant will prepare and deliver four workshops with our partners Sheppey Matters and Oasis Hub alongside the local Coasts in Mind Project Officer and Community Archaeologist.
Fee: £2,000 total will be paid to the artist covering planning, delivery and materials. Venue hire and refreshments will be covered by the project.
Scope of Work: Co-designed with Oasis Hub and Sheppey Matters, the objectives of these events are to create community connections across age groups and provide a space to explore heritage and coastal change.
We are seeking an artist who can design and deliver both an outdoor workshop and an accessible, indoor workshop which empower participants to explore ideas of climate change and community resilience through their own experiences. Both workshop types will take inspiration from the local coastal environment and should be self-contained, although we envisage the indoor workshop bringing the outside in! An optional variety of tactile/ hands-on art forms should enable participants to develop new skills so that they can create individually or as a part of a group. The artist will also create a presentation strategy (e.g. digital booklet, or social media campaign) to showcase workshop outputs, complementing Coasts in Mind project events and exhibitions.
Timetable: The successful applicant must be able to commit to the following dates agreed with our local partners Sheppey Matters and Oasis Hub.
Times: Rushenden (14:00 – 16:00) and Sheerness (13:00 – 15:00)
How to apply: Please send a brief (1 side of A4) expression of interest containing your proposed workshop design as well as some examples of previous work / projects to Harry Farmer, [email protected] by the 31 October.
