What is a record

What kind records can be added to the platform and how to upload them.

Within Coasts in Mind, a record is a single component of the archive, it can come in a variety of forms.

The types of media that you can upload are:

Image

  • These can include personal photographs, maps, plans, post cards, posters, photos of promotional or travel materials, and photos and scans of text documents.
  • You can upload files from your computer by dragging or browsing.

Image Comparison

  • This is used to add a side-by-side comparison image to an archive record that is a historic image.
  • Upload a modern image from the same vantage point as your record and the two images will be layered over each other with a slider tool for comparison.
  • You can upload a maximum of two files from your computer by dragging or browsing.

Audio

  • These can be recordings of songs, stories and oral histories.
  • Audio files must be uploaded to SoundCloud first and then linked to the platform by the URL.

Video

  • These may include personal video footage, recordings of interviews, historical films, or tourism videos.
  • Video files must be uploaded to YouTube or Vimeo first and then linked to the platform by the URL.

IIIF

  • International Image Interoperability Framework is a standardised method for delivering images and audio/visual files from servers to different sites online.
