The mapping platform

An introduction to the community archive map.

A bespoke mapping platform has been developed for our Coasts in Mind community archive by Humap. This interactive online platform ties objects and stories to location and displays them visually to provide a deeper understanding of the information.

The archive is made up of individual records that are displayed on a map. Records can be images, text files, videos and audio recordings and may be annotated with spatial information drawn directly in the platform. These can be searched by location, record type and key word to navigate the archive.

The records in the archive are collected from local archives, and through collection events in our study areas and are uploaded by our Community Citizen Scientists

In addition to being publicly available in the platform, all data created during the project will be deposited with the ADS (Archaeology Data Service) making it widely accessible to heritage professionals.
